Welcome to the New Hampton Educational
Prairie Guide
The New Hampton Educational Prairie is located on the New Hampton Community School (High School Grounds), just to the southwest of the Chickasaw Wellness Complex along the TriMark Freedom Trail. It was established in the spring of 2008 as an Eagle Scout Project by Matt Sedivec and is maintained by the New Hampton Community School District and the 5th Graders at New Hampton Middle School under the instruction of Mr. Monteith.
As a part of the 5th grade unit on prairies, the students research one of the 14 plants found in the New Hampton Educational Prairie. They then worked collaboratively to create a plant guide so others who visit the prairie can gain knowledge and understandings about the native plants that once inhabited Iowa.
